The objective of this research article is to study the naming strategies for royal development projects of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The population used in the study was the names of royal development projects from documents of the Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB). The sample was 834 royal development projects on water resources in the northern region, covering 17 provinces. The findings reveal 5 strategies for naming royal development projects, arranged in descending order as follows: 1) project name + from the royal initiative/according to the royal initiative/under the royal initiative + location; 2) project name-(without) from the royal initiative + location; 3) project name + according to the royal intention + location; 4) project name + location + from the royal initiative; 5) project name specially bestowed by the King. The benefits gained form this research reflect His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s benevolence and genius in using the Thai language
